Another day working on the house. I came back home with the boys so our oldest wouldn't miss too much school, but James is still at the house site trying to get the roof put on. He took a week off work to hit it hard and maybe get the whole roof put on. He is working hard. The wind up there can blow pretty hard at times, especially since we are on top of a hill. This week has been no exception. For the last few days, James has been battling the blowing wind with each piece of tin that he lifts up to the roof. But persistance pays off.....he has already got one porch roof completed and is now moving another section of the roof. I talked to him this morning by phone and he said that he was going to work on one of the steeper pitches where the dormers are. I checked the weather forcast and all looks clear with no rain for the next couple of days.

Installing Tin Roof (Day 1)
We've been waiting for this day for a long time. And now, it's finally here. James picked up our tin on Friday and began installing it on Saturday. We ordered some galvalume 26 guage tin with deep ridges and a matte finish. It looks so good! James and I were both really happy with the tin. On this first day, he got 9 pieces of tin put up.

More Siding & Windows Installed
We had a bit of bad news when we arrived at the house at the beginning of the weekend. Turns out the roof was leaking from the rains that came. There were quite a few large wet spots on the floor on the inside. It looks like some of it came in from the dormers and some of it came in through the crack in the roof where the porch roof meets the house roof. James had to spend some time fixing that. Well, I guess we can try to look at the bright side....at least we found it before we put up the sheetrock.

What Color Should We Paint the House?
Last weekend, James started putting up the siding on our house. This has us thinking about paint colors. We have been trying to come up with a good color from the very beginning, but it's so hard to decide on one that we know we'll be happy with. It's got to be just right. I found some neat software at Lowe's the other day. It lets you work with a picture of your own house and try out many different paint colors. You can switch back and forth between 6 different paint companies. All of these companies sell their paint at Lowe's. So when we decide on a color we can have it mixed up at Lowe's. My question to you, dear readers, is what color would you paint your house? Would it be a dark color or a light color? Would it be a bright, happy color such as red or blue or yellow? Or would it be a neutral, earthy tone? Just curious. Email me.

It's Taking Shape!

Picture taken: 1/3/09
James has been going down every weekend to work on the house. Right now, he is putting up the facia and soffits. When this is done, we can start thinking about putting up the tin roof. The pictures below show progress of the house over the past year.
For the past year now I have been taking pictures of the progress of the house. But this aerial is one of my favorites. This picture was taken by my cousin. I love seeing it from this perspective! The land is beautiful.
