What It Looks Like Now (9/30/09)

For a long time now James and I have wanted our own house. We have been married for nearly 11 years and have spent that whole time living in a rent house. We worked hard and saved up some money. Now, our dream is becoming a reality. It will be a lot of hard work because we are building it ourselves. Well, actually, James has done most of the building so far. There has been lots of driving back and forth between our current home and our future home (290 miles one way). In the end, we will have a nice old-fashioned country home that we can be proud to live in.
Timeline
10/14/07 Clear land
11/09/07 Drill holes for conc. pillars
11/10/07 Buy septic tank ($291)
11/29/07 Doze driveway & elec. line ($400 for 5 hrs)
12/06/07 Elec. line installed ($6,279)
12/20/07 Pour cement pillars for foundation ($876 for 10 yds)
12/29/07 Plant wildflowers on land
02/08/08 Install temporary elec. pole
02/22/08 Begin building floor
04/19/08 Floor completed
04/30/08 Put up walls
05/18/08 Put up OSB on outside walls
05/25/08 Build & raise ridge beam
06/08/08 Begin attaching rafters to ridge beam

Tin roofs are one of the lightest and softest metal roofs. A roof like this that's properly installed can last for 40 years. However, it will still depend on how well it was maintained and taken care of.

I agree with Allyson. The quality and durability of your tin roof, or any other kind of roof, depends on how you maintain and take care of it. I hope your tin roof is still in good condition to minimize expenses and to prevent another 8 straight days of work. You’d rather go on vacation rather than do the home renovation, right? :)
